What is Digital Citizenship to Me?
Digital Citizenship is a term and idea used within the realm of technology. My own, personal definition of digital citizenship is that it is a personal responsibility within the world of technology, that encompasses the way someone accesses, uses, distributes and contributes with any form of digital communication. In a world of booming technology, digital citizenship is an ever-changing concept that needs to be understood by those involved in digital communication and technology communities.
This diagram is a simple reminder as to what Digital Citizenship is and how we can apply it in our and the students' daily lives
Why is Digital Citizenship Important in Schools?
As an educator, I investigate many topics that may not directly correlate with education and try to identify if there is an importance within the field of education. Thru my recent research, I have discovered evidence that digital citizenship is truly an important part of education, especially in our world of technology. Digital citizenship is important in education because it is a personable responsibility, yet it can effect large groups of those within education; students, teachers, parents and administration. Digital citizenship encompasses many technological ideas; rights and responsibilities, digital access, communication and resources, all of which are unitized within education. Therefore, it is important to introduce or review the concepts of digital citizenship to those that are digital participants and an enormous amount of those users can be identified within the field of education.

My website focuses on the main concepts within digital citizenship. As mentioned above, those ideas are digital rights and responsibilities, digital access, digital communication and resources. My hope is that you will identify current, relevant and perhaps new information regarding digital citizenship.
Below is a quote from a website called "Digital Citizenship: Using Technology Appropriately", that was very helpful to me.
http://www.digitalcitizenship.net/ "Digital Citizenship is a concept which helps teachers, technology leaders and parents to understand what students/children/technology users should know to use technology appropriately. Digital Citizenship is more than just a teaching tool; it is a way to prepare students/technology users for a society full of technology. Digital citizenship is the norms of appropriate, responsible technology use. Too often we are seeing students as well as adults misusing and abusing technology but not sure what to do. The issue is more than what the users do not know but what is considered appropriate technology usage (2014)." Since this website focuses on digital citizenship, specifically within the field of education, the audience can be somewhat broad. In the world of education, we are transitioning into the vast world of technology and with that comes the responsibility of owning our personal, digital citizenship. Therefore, my audience is not limited to, but mostly intended for; middle and high school students, teachers, parents, guardians, and administrators who are interested in learning more or reviewing their knowledge of digital citizenship.
